Surf Life Saving Foundation

One hundred years ago, beachgoers who were concerned about the dangers of ‘surf bathing’ formed themselves into clubs in an attempt to make the surf safer for all. The surf lifesaver has been an Australia icon ever since.

As one of Australia’s first not-for-profit organisations dedicated to safety and rescue, our volunteers and donors are vital. And because of their support, we’ve been in the surf and on the beach since 1907, keeping a watchful eye and saving lives. Every year more than 33,000 lifesavers actively patrol our beaches, preventing emergencies, giving First Aid and performing life saving rescues.

Surf Life Saving FoundationTo respond to any urgent situation, our lifesavers need intensive training and modern, reliable equipment – inflatable rescue boats, rescue boards, emergency kits, oxygen bottles… the list goes on.

Safety doesn’t come cheap. The cost of recruiting, training, and outfitting a single surf lifesaver is in excess of $1800. The price of essential rescue equipment for one beach is a staggering $50,000. That’s why every dollar donated helps Surf Life Savers save lives!

Kids Under Cover

Established in 1989, Kids Under Cover is a not-for-profit organisation operating in Victoria, Queensland and the ACT. We respond to the needs of young people who are at risk of becoming homeless due to extreme conflict or overcrowding within the family home. Unfortunately the need is growing, with more families reaching crisis stage than ever before.

Our response is simple. We offer one or two bedroom, fully demountable bungalows with bathroom constructed on the grounds of the family/carer's home. This unique accommodation allows families to stay connected, giving them extra room to live and providing the young person with a safe, secure and stable environment to grow into healthy adulthood. Kids Under Cover focuses on early identification of issues and prevention of youth homelessness.

In addition to the bungalow program, Kids Under Cover also has a housing program whereby 14 houses are managed by our member Community Service Organisations. The houses are used to accommodate young people who are currently experiencing homelessness including a strong focus on young mothers and their babies.

Kids Under CoverYoung people and their siblings who have lived, or are currently living in Kids Under Cover accommodation, automatically qualify to apply for a Kids Under Cover Scholarship. The scholarships are designed to promote the return to school for individuals who have been absent for extended periods and for those looking to realise their dreams through further education.

Through responsive action with a focus on prevention, Kids Under Cover is able to deliver a service, supporting young people to be independent, breaking any cycle of welfare. Kids Under Cover provides disenfranchised young people with the opportunity to experience family life, pursue educational aspirations and maintain a real sense of family.

Please note: This is not the official Kids Under Cover Donate Your Car Program. Please click here if you wish to make direct contact with the Kids Under Cover team about donating your car.

Rainforest Rescue

Our Save a Rainforest projects operate in Australia and internationally to protect rainforests for current and future generations. We purchase at-risk rainforest properties and create nature refuges that are protected in perpetuity.

Our Plant a Rainforest projects operate in Australia and internationally to restore and maintain biodiversity. We are regenerating, restoring and replanting rainforest to provide essential habitat for endangered species, such as the Cassowary and the Orangutan. Each rainforest tree we plant also helps to combat climate change.

Keep Australia Beautiful

Keep Australia Beautiful’s mission is 'to lead, challenge and inspire all Australians to strive for a sustainable and litter free environment'. We are a federation of state and territory offices coordinated by a national office, have programs in each state and territory and have been encouraging people all around Australia to care for their local environment since 1968.

Keep Australia BeautifulResearch: Our National Litter Index is Australia's only national, annual quantitative report on litter by type, by location and by volume.

Awareness: Keep Australia Beautiful Week coincides with the first week of spring and is a time for all Australians to be active in caring for their local environment.

Action: Our Sustainable Communities Awards include the Tidy Towns, Sustainable Cities and Clean Beaches awards which all target litter, recycling, packaging waste and graffiti. We recognise local participants for their achievements in helping to create sustainable communities.

These are just some of our activities that involve millions of Australians each year.

Down Syndrome Association of Queensland

The Down Syndrome Association of Queensland (DSAQ) supports, advocates for and empowers children and adults with Down syndrome, so they can be valued and contributing members of the community. People with Down syndrome have the same hopes and dreams as every-one else and as such, are entitled to the acceptance, recognition and understanding from the community. This is often achieved through the hard work, commitment and perseverance of their family members. People with Down syndrome and their families need adequate information and support structures to enable them to walk in their community with acceptance and pride.

DSAQ has more than 1000 members, including families and affiliate members such as hospitals and schools. The DSAQ services are not limited to financial members and resources, information and support are requested on an ongoing basis from other interested persons, including teachers, doctors and service providers. DSAQ also run workshops, conferences, regional camps and information days so that remoteness is no barrier to information and support. They also provide a mentoring program for adults with Down syndrome to develop community skills and social networking, run early intervention playgroups, parents coffee mornings, grandparents support groups, hospital inservices and music therapies. DSAQ is committed to providing quality information and services and to educate the wider community.
